Winter Weddings

January 13, 2009 by admin

Well…thank goodness the blizzard didn’t hit the region like they said it would! But Brrrrr….it sure is cold out there isn’t it?

This past weekend I tested my winter athletic abilities and went skiing with my husband and some friends! It was cold…no doubt about it…. but I sure was bundled. It was perfect weather…chilly with a beautiful fresh, fluffy snowfall. While we were on the chairlift and as terrified as I was I noticed something…. something besides my husbands hand turning blue from the loss of circulation due to my frightening grip. I noticed how beautiful winter truly is. As we approached the mountain I saw the beautiful evergreens with white tipped ends. I noticed the large fluffy snowflakes slowly falling from above. It was beautiful!!

Winter is a beautiful time of the year. It maybe bitterly cold outside but cuddling near the fireplace with a warm cup of hot cocoa is absolutely romantic.

To me, the chill in winter is obsolete with the love that fills the air…especially at winter weddings.

So how can you spice up your winter wedding. Here are a few ideas to get you going!

Choose a Color Combo

From baby blues to a warm champagne hue, the lighter shades are the colors to opt for. Try to create a winter wonderland. Standard white table lines work well this time of the year. Jazz them up with a textured silver overlay and silver velvet bows on your chair covers. Also try incorporating tiny hints of blue, from the sash on your dress to the dress for your bridesmaids. And don’t forget to keep yourself and your girls warm with faux fur wraps! They are a must!

Floral

Branches…. branches…branches. It’s all about making?the reception hall look more lodge like with the romantic hues and snow lined tables. Try florals that are inspired by the season. Fill tall vases with branches. From there you can add berries or keep with the branch theme. My new love is hanging tea lights from the branches. You can even incorporate small clusters of crystals on the branches to create a moonlit snowfall night!

Branches not your thing? Try grouping multi-level vases together with all white buds and silver accents.

Venue

Location…location…location. If you have a lodge like venue…GREAT! Book it. If not…that is okay, we can create it! :) ? Look for a venue with great panoramic views of the snowfall. If they are hillside…even better. Look for a venue that has a fireplace and is decorated in warm hues. If none of these options are available, don’t sweat it…the sweat beads might freeze!!!! Create your winter wonderland with romantic lighting. Some?bands and DJ’s have the ability to create light images on the dance floor and on the walls. Try snowflakes for the dance floor and incorporate a cool blue hue around the dance floor and head table.

Comfort Foods

When I think of winter chow, I think of rich foods like bread, spices, warm apple pie, tea and coffee. Try thicker options like a thick cream based soup?as your first course. For the main course think steak. A nice cut of filet is always a seller…especially when paired with Rosemary Herb potatoes and a hearty vegetable. Instead of having a signature cocktail, try a signature tea or coffee. Or even a coffee bar with a variety of tasty creams like Eggnog.

Sparkling Confectionsthe tastiest part of the meal…at least to me!!!!

Try a tall cake adorned with light blue snowflakes or dusted with an edible silver sparkle. You can also incorporate the floral theme here as well. Try to match your centerpieces. Whether it is berries or branches, ask you baker how they can stick with the theme.

As for fillings and flavors, try something rich like a dark chocolate or spice cake. Depending on your flavor palette, try a rich rum or sticky caramel filling…with buttercream frosting of course!

Now that winter is truly here…and here to stay…well for the time being…start turning those winter blues into bright winter ideas for your wedding…. and if you are getting married this winter. Don’t go skiing before hand…you may not be able to walk down the isle if you do! :)

Until next time! Stay warm!?
